Overview

Central Oregon Walks, Hikes & Strolls for Mature Folks was born from the desire to take our parents on suitable outings in the area. It evolved into a user-friendly guide for all ages. The outings cover some of the most beautiful destinations in Central Oregon and include treks for all ability levels from beginning walker to seasoned hiker. There are even outings for those in wheelchairs. Thus, it represents a useful handbook for locals and visitors to the region. The feasibility guage with each outing is a unique feature that makes it easy to determine if the outing is appropriate for kids, seniors, or anyone else. The introduction provides useful information for preparation to participate, and the appendix adds additional helpful resources.

About the Author

Marsha Johnson moved to Central Oregon at age 21 and has spent decades enjoying the beauty of the area. While raising two sons and working in the advertising field, she managed to devote many hours over the years to hitting the mountain and forest trails. Finally, in 2000, she and her sister Wendy decided to write about some of the adventures they were experiencing, and together they created this trail guide to facilitate others' enjoyment of the area.

Wendy Gray worked in school administration in East Texas and spent many summers hiking in Oregon, Colorado and other states. She helped build a trail to the Continental Divide and led backpacking trips in the San Juan Mountains of Colorado. She often hiked with her sister in Central Oregon, which led them, in 2000, to research and write a trail guide to facilitate others being able to enjoy the same wild beauty they were experiencing.
