Martin and Nicole are stuck in a Los Angeles, California during a huge, week long storm that prevents them from reaching Hawaii where they had planned to celebrate their fiftieth wedding anniversary. Undaunted by their misfortune, they celebrate the event in their elegant hotel suite with pizza and champagne, then conclude it with love making.
To their amazement, while in the midst of their pleasure, their room is hit by a tremendous bolt of lightening, which they refused to allow to disrupt their bliss. Hoever, once awake, they realize that the lightening had had a peculiar effect on them--that it had released their minds from their corporeal existence. Being a pair of tough-minded people, they reason out what had happened, then decide to take advantage of the few special abilities that they quickly uncover and, strange though it seems to them, travel the world's past in search of ancesstral bodies they might find and incorporate with.
Once their minds are made up, they close their eyes and instruct their minds to perform this crazy-sounding scheme, and quickly find themselves in ancient times on the island of Crete in the Aegean Sea between Greaace and Turkey. To their utter shock, they find themselves placed in the bodies of two young centaurs rather than human bodies.
Still undaunted, they befriend the other centaurs on the island, who are not natives of it since they were brought over under false promisses by a race of cruel giants whom they call Gogians. The reason they were brought to Crete was the need of their masters to rebuild their population by mating with the centaus, who have to idea about this horrific plan
Nicole, who had been a gifted scientist in many fields, together with Martin who had retired from the Marines as a general, quickly uncover the Gogian secret plans and help the enraged centaurs get rid of all their opressors and become a nation under their own rule.
