About the Author

Cheryl MacDonald is a full-time writer and historian who has been writing about Canadian history for more than 30 years. Her historical articles have appeared in The Beaver, Old Farmer's Almanac, Hamilton Spectator and Maclean's. A graduate of the University of Waterloo and McMaster University with an MA in history, she has written, co-authored or edited nearly 40 books of historical non-fiction. Cheryl lives in Nanticoke, Ontario, with a household of pets, including Louie the Labrador; Sophie, a senior Siamese; and the Orangetigger twins, Samantha and Arnold.
