About the Author

Curtis L.E. Barnett was born and grew up in the seafaring milieu of the Cayman Islands, where the main focus of people’s thoughts and activities was centered on the sea and the marine environment. From his boyhood days, the author heard from the lips of the men, as well as some women, who worked on the sea and travelled to other lands, stories that intrigued him. The real-life accounts that almost sounded like imaginary tales both fascinated and awakened in him an interest in people of other cultures and languages. Motivated by such curiosity, he went on to pursue university studies in Hispanic language and literature, and eventually earned a Ph.D. degree from Columbia University in the City of New York.

Dr. Barnett has previously published three books, Something About Us, Toes in the Sand, and Mid-Millennial Isles, which are collections of poetry, essays, and short stories.
