Overview

This book is a true story about the unusual friendship that blossoms between a white, miniature pony and a large, black Hanoverian mare. The calligraphy in English is woven into the drawings on the reader's right, while translations into Spanish, Italian, German and Swedish appear on the reader's left, making the book accessible to children everywhere.
The story unfolds as the opinionated mare, Rose, explodes in anger when the little pony named Cash and his stablemate, Lolly, are first introduced at the barn. For an alpha mare like Rose, newcomers are always intruders! To begin with, little Cash and Lolly keep their distance. When Cash first watches Rose training in the arena next to his paddock, he sees her in a different light. He watches closely from the fence line as she dances gracefully past him, weaving her spell. He yearns to be her friend, but she continues to treat him aggressively. Nevertheless, weeks later, he ends up saving the day when Rose is preparing for her first show.
This story reveals the power that love and friendship have when confronting seemingly overwhelming differences. It is a must for horse-loving children and adults from all over the world.

About the Author

Elisabeth D'Antoni has been drawing, horseback riding and learning foreign languages all of her life. After completing her BFA and MA (in German) at the University of Colorado, she lived in Germany for over 30 years, teaching English at the university level. Upon returning to the United States in 2003, she taught German at Broward College in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, for 11 years. After retiring there, she created this book while she and her husband were managing D'Antoni Stables during the pandemic.

Susanne Scheidler is a retired school teacher and poet, who took English classes from the author in the 1980s in Regensburg, Germany. They share a love of horses, as well as the written word in English/American and German.

Cristina Bertuccini has known the author most of her life. She studied languages and works as a translator (French, English and German) from her home near Misano Adriatico.

Carmen Western worked as a fashion buyer in Manhattan, which contributed to her extensive travel experience throughout Europe and Asia. She grew up speaking Spanish, but didn't discover her passion for horses until after retirement. She and the other translators were very supportive of this little book.

Anette Norden grew up in Sweden before her love of travel took over and she became a flight attendant. Her love of horses led her to D'Antoni Stables, where she has become a welcome friend.
