Overview

Using the themes found in Lee Strobel’s New York Times bestselling book The Case for Christ, this 90-day devotional for kids 9 to 12 combines historical and biblical evidence with fun facts, interesting trivia, and contemporary stories to explore what it means to be a Christian, and how we can be sure Jesus really existed, performed miracles, and rose from the dead to save the world from sin. And each short, two-page devotion helps kids “examine the case” when it comes to Jesus and apply those truths to their everyday lives.

Based on the eye-opening bestselling Case for … series, this 90-day devotional for kids explores the life of Jesus and what it means to be a Christian, while also tackling the tough questions kids ask about God, the Bible, and why faith is important. Each day’s reading starts with an interesting and child-friendly story or fact to get kids’ minds wondering and engaged, and then applies that information to what the Bible, historical proof, and reliable research show us about Jesus and his ministry, as well as it means to follow Christ today. Each day, your child can “investigate” the case for Jesus for themselves and discover why the facts hold true.

Case for Christ for Kids 90-Day Devotional:

  • Can be used independently or as a daily devotional at mealtimes or bedtime
  • Is filled with short devotions that are packed with information but can be read in under five minutes
  • Is a perfect companion to The Case for Christ for Kids, which directly adapts Lee Strobel’s The Case for Christ book for a late elementary and middle school audience
  • Demonstrates how kids can live out their faith every day, as well as helps them remain confident in their beliefs as they grow up

CHAPTER 1

DISCOVER THE REAL JESUS

There is no Christianity without Christ. But Jesus didn't come to earth to start a new religion. He came to rebuild the relationship between people and God. Jesus lived, died, and rose from the dead so we could know God personally.

Our purpose in life isn't to follow a bunch of religious rules. We're called to follow Jesus. And to follow him, we must know him.

As you read through this book, you learn more about Jesus' life. You'll discover the Jesus of history. You'll hear Jesus the teacher. You'll see Jesus the miracle worker. And you'll come face-to-face with Jesus the risen Lord. But the best way to find the real Jesus is to read about him in the Gospels. Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John carefully and accurately wrote about Jesus' life. In a couple of weeks, you'll come to a story in this book titled "Reality Check." At the end of it, you'll be asked to commit to read one of the Gospels. But before you even begin this book, we want to challenge you to read all of the Gospels.

In order to get to know Christ—really know Christ—the best place to start is in the Gospels. This book contains ninety devotions. There are eighty-nine chapters in the Gospels (Matthew is the longest with twenty-eight, while Mark has just sixteen). So if you read just one devotion and one chapter of the Bible each day, you'll be able to complete this book and all of the Gospels in less than three months! Are you up to the challenge?

You may have to put in a little extra time and effort now, but you'll reap rewards right away and into the future. Nothing is more important than knowing Christ. We created this book to help you on that journey. Take time each day to dig into your faith in the "Examine the Case" section. Look up the Scripture passage in the "Final Word." If you make the effort to get really involved in the content of this book and the Bible, you'll be amazed by all you discover about Christ.

HOT DOG FAITH

Who doesn't love hot dogs? Sure, some people shy away from this frankly popular frank. But most Americans love to eat hot dogs—lots of them.

During just the Fourth of July holiday, Americans consume 150 million frankfurters! If you put that many hot dogs in a line, they would stretch around the world from New York City to Sydney, Australia.

But have you ever looked at the ingredients in an inexpensive hot dog? The first ingredient is almost always mechanically separated turkey or chicken. But what is that? According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), it's a "paste-like and batter-like poultry product produced by forcing bones, with attached edible tissue, through a sieve or similar device under high pressure." Yum. Most hot dogs contain pork, which the USDA says can be any "meat" removed from the bone by "advanced meat recovery machinery." Other ingredients include water, corn syrup, beef, salt, sodium phosphate, sodium erythorbate, sodium nitrate, and maltodextrin.

Does your mouth water thinking of those ingredients? Probably not.

FINAL WORD

"Solid food is for the mature, who by constant use have trained themselves to distinguish good from evil" Hebrews 5:14.

DIG IN

    Jeremy Jangle Michael McBoom
Simply refused to clean his room.
He tried to obey and wasn't unkind.
He just was afraid of what he might find.
The door didn't budge. The floor was all gone.
He thought about cleaning, but not for too long.
His socks mounded up like a pile of hay.
The stench was so bad that his dog ran away.
There were sweaty T-shirts, jackets with stains,
Empty Coke bottles and old candy canes.
Homework assignments that were long overdue
Hid under a book and some Dinty Moore stew.
Dishes were piled with gross crusts of bread.
His hamster was lost and presumably dead.
Jeremy's mom had at last seen enough.
She went to his door and said with a huff,
"Your room is atrocious. It's time to begin.
Go grab a shovel. You have to dig in."

FINAL WORD

"The Bereans were very glad to receive Paul's message. They studied the Scriptures carefully every day. They wanted to see if what Paul said was true" Acts 17:11 NIRV.
