About the Author

Joseph Sheridan Le Fanu (1814-73) was a prolific Irish author celebrated for his compelling Gothic tales, gripping mystery novels, and spine-chilling horror fiction. Among his notable works are Uncle Silas, Carmilla, and The House by the Churchyard. Literary scholar Jack Sullivan calls Le Fanu "one of the most important and innovative figures in the development of the ghost story." Le Fanu's literary legacy is marked by his profound contributions to the evolution of horror and fantastic/supernatural fiction, leaving an indelible mark on the genre with his masterful storytelling and macabre imagination.
Roger Dobson (1954-2013) was an English author, editor, and journalist. He was particularly interested in fantastic and horror fiction, especially the work of the Welsh author Arthur Machen. He edited John Gawsworth's The Life of Arthur Machen (2005), and co-edited the Selected Letters of Machen (with Godfrey Brangham and R. A. Gilbert, 1988). His literary essays were collected in The Library of the Lost: In Search of Forgotten Authors (2015).
