It focuses on the various areas that impact the lives and well-being of this patient population and their families. It also focuses on areas of research and education needed regarding interventions and treatment for this patient group. The book is designed to challenge ideas and start debate about research and treatment in this field.
Audience: It is intended for all clinicians treating individuals with mental health and substance use disorders, as well as students and educators.
Features: The focus of this book is on the issues involved in the early stages of treatment. The chapters review topics related to service accessibility, screening and assessment, early interventions, and brief intervention techniques for patients and families. In the treatment-related chapters, the book goes over interventional techniques of integrated motivational interviewing, cognitive behavioral therapy, and cognitive behavioral integrated treatment. Two chapters are devoted to pharmacological management of addiction as well as complementary and alternative therapies in this patient population.
Assessment: Although the information this book provides is not new and is available in other books, it presents it in an easy to read manner and provides the unique experiences of patients with multiple clinical examples.
