Description: This is a comprehensive resource for veterinary technicians and nurses working with cardiovascular patients in a veterinary practice.
Purpose: The purpose is to explain cardiac diseases, their pathophysiologies, means of diagnosing them, and treatments.
Audience: The target audience is veterinary technicians and nurses. However, this is also an excellent book for a far wider audience including veterinary students, general practitioners, interns, and even new cardiology residents. The fact that a large portion of the authors are board-certified cardiologists lends the book a lot of credibility.
Features: This is an excellent overview of all major topics in veterinary cardiology ranging from fetal anatomy to end-stage heart failure. The text is clear, easy to read, and strikes a nice balance, providing adequate detail without overwhelming readers. The radiographic and echo images are very useful. No shortcomings — love this book!
Assessment: This is an outstanding book. Its size makes it an easily portable manual for a wide array of people in the veterinary field. It is less imposing than other veterinary books (as it is smaller), but it also provides excellent detail.
