David L. Hayes, MD, is Consultant, Division of Cardiovascular Diseases and Internal Medicine at the Mayo Clinic and Mayo Foundation and Professor of Medicine at the Mayo Medical School, Rochester, Minnesota, USA.

Paul Friedman is a Professor of Medicine and Chair of the Department of Cardiovascular Medicine at Mayo Clinic, Rochester, Minnesota. He is ABIM board certified in cardiovascular medicine and cardiac electrophysiology, and is an active participant in the MOC process.

This volume consists of 49 actual problems encountered in cardiac pacing separated into easy, moderate, and complex sections. Altogether, they fairly represent the wide range of potential problems in pacing.
Purpose: The authors believe that this subject can best be mastered by having the reader work through a comprehensive list of actual case studies. The problems each contain an electrocardiogram or a chest x-ray.
Audience: The case studies are generally simple at the beginning of each volume and become progressively more difficult toward the end. This format allows beginners in the field to learn new concepts with each case, preparing them for the more challenging problems at the end of the volume. Cardiologists and electrophysiologists will also appreciate this workbook not only for its teaching potential but for the stimulating problems it provides.
Features: Illustrations are followed by a small set of uncomplicated questions. Answers are found on the following page with additional illustrations dissecting the previous EKG or highlighting the case study x-ray. The explanations are easy to follow, and more importantly the illustrations are clearly marked, making comprehension straightforward.
