About the Author

David Parlett is a former teacher and technical writer. He has been a freelance games inventor and writer for over 40 years. His now classic board game Hare & Tortoise has won many international awards and he is a visiting professor in board games design at the University of Suffolk. But he is best known for his research into card games, especially for his ground-breaking Oxford History of Card Games and the encyclopaedic Penguin Book of Card Games.

Edward Copisarow collects and researches old board games and playing cards and has assembled a library of books on old and curious card games. A member of the English and International Playing Card Societies and the Playing Card Committee of the Worshipful Company of Makers of Playing Cards, he lectures internationally on the evolution of games.
