Hot on the heels of Supreme Justice, Margolin delivers another heart-pounding thriller featuring private investigator Dana Cutler and lawyer Brad Miller, who are forced by a terrorist attack on a football stadium-and by the escape of Executive Privilege's convicted serial killer Clarence Little-to follow a sinister trail of lies, treachery, and betrayal into an unexpected new arena: the U.S. Congress.

Publishers Weekly

PI Dana Cutler and attorney Brad Miller, now working as a congressional legal aide, contend with sex scandals, an escaped murderer, and a looming major terrorist attack on U.S. soil in bestseller Margolin’s busy third Washington, D.C., thriller (after 2010’s Supreme Justice). Cutler is dispatched to Portland, Ore., where Miller’s boss, Sen. Jack Carson, has gotten involved with a Middle Eastern seductress, Jessica Koshani, who possesses a DVD showing Carson in a compromising position. Koshani blackmails Carson into returning to D.C., where he’s to report to her on what the authorities know about a suicide bombing her employers are plotting. Meanwhile, Miller must keep track of Clarence Little, a serial killer and former client sent to prison in 2008’s Executive Privilege, who’s been sending Miller cryptically threatening letters since escaping custody in Oregon. Some readers may struggle with the large cast and many scene shifts, but Margolin manages to pull everything together in the end. Agents: Jean Naggar and Jennifer Weltz, Jean V. MAY 2012 - AudioFile

The latest, and perhaps best, book by Margolin is like having four books in one. Attorney Brad Miller and P.I. Dana Cutler are back to deal with the misdeeds of a U.S. senator, apprehend an escaped serial killer, and prevent a major terrorist attack on the country. There's also a subplot that revolves around the senator's shady background. It's a fast-moving story, and a brief moment of inattention can result in finding oneself lost. Narrator Jonathan Davis keeps things on track. His deep voice maintains listeners’ engagement, and the detailed nuances he gives to multiple characters make this mystery easier to follow. He's especially adroit at portraying the terrorists. A.L.H. Winner of AudioFile Earphones Award © AudioFile 2012, Portland, Maine
