Overview

As winter holidays draw near, the weather cools down, but the tension heats up for twins Kiojah and Lee Hughes in Can You Handle the Truth? Kiojah is excited when the new student in Ms. Ferguson's class wants to be her friend. However, Kiojah has to make some tough decisions when her mother feels differently about this new friendship. If drama at school isn't enough, each day Kiojah and Lee face an unusual bully as they walk home from school. The twins are encouraged to stand up for themselves, but their plan backfires, causing them even more trouble. Finally, Kiojah and Lee learn a real-world lesson about confronting difficult situations with the right attitude.

About the Author

Kecia Johnson was born and raised and still resides in Gainesville, Florida. Inspired by her experiences with students as a middle school reading teacher, K-12 writing coach, and elementary and high school media specialist, she decided to explore storytelling and creative writing. She was drawn to students who were reluctant to engage in literacy activities because they struggled in those areas. The encouragement from five friends, support from family, and divine inspiration led her to write and publish her first children's book, Don't Bring Me Bad News, with Can You Handle the Truth? and subsequent books in the series underway. She hopes her books will give children positive experiences with literature, a good laugh, and something to talk about. She holds a BS in journalism and an MA in mass communication with concentrations in writing for print news and multimedia storytelling from the University of Florida.

Lindsey Bailey is an artist and illustrator currently based in Olive Branch, Mississippi. She graduated from Mississippi State University in 2009 with a bachelor of fine arts in Graphic Design. She has worked on editorial illustration, character design, book covers, children's books, and portraits for clients including Black Dog & Leventhal Publishers, Bleacher Report, The Georgia Review and ESPN.

More than fifteen years as an editor, book designer and ebook creator have given Jill Ronsley a broad knowledge of the publishing industry. She has edited books published by HarperCollins and worked for the editor-in-chief of two Toronto lifestyle magazines, La Dolce Vita and City Life. Her clients come from around the world.

She was awarded Best Book Editor 2005 from the Editors and Preditors Readers Poll (out of over 100 nominees) and has been a judge in writing and book competitions. She was on the board of Boost4Writers, one of the first major online critique programs for children's writers, with an international membership.

Jill is a trusted resource for writers and publishers. A presenter at the Muse Online Writers Conference in 2009 and 2010, she has published articles on writing, editing, book design and self-publishing.
