Overview

"Buttons Has Her Day" is the story of our smallest pony (named Buttons) as she discovers what her purpose is.

About CTR and Herd Adventures:
Established in 2003, Chesapeake Therapeutic Riding (CTR)'s mission is to deliver healing and learning to individuals and groups whose minds, bodies and spirits will benefit from the transformative connection between people and horses.

Since our first rider held reins in 2005, CTR has served thousands of residents of Harford County, MD, and the surrounding areas. Regardless of our clients' ages, CTR uses horses and horse-related activities as a means to provide adaptive recreation and educational activities to children and adults who live with disabilities, at-risk youth, and veterans.

Our certified staff and trained volunteers are dedicated to serving people through therapeutic riding lessons (adaptive recreation), EAL (Equine Assisted Learning), and Horse Powered Learning (educational activities that are unmounted). We are a Premier Accredited Center of PATH International, the Professional Association of Therapeutic Horsemanship.

Our herd of Gentle Horses is the heart of the work at CTR. They come from varied backgrounds and experiences and are all uniquely gifted for the work they help us do, as we help people. These are some of our horses' stories, and we hope you enjoy reading them as much as we enjoyed writing them. Any proceeds from the sale of these books will go back into CTR programming and herd care--so we can continue to deliver healing and learning to individuals and groups whose minds, bodies and spirits will benefit from the transformative connection between people and horses.

About the Author

Author Harriett Hooff (also known as CTR Program Director, Katy Santiff) grew up in Maryland with tons of family pets and several horses. She loves to write and is a published poet. She knows intrinsically how much the connection with creatures we love can mean to us, and how much we can learn from them. She chose this pen name to honor one of these creatures, a mule named Harriett, and her father—Bill Santiff.

About the Illustrator:
Mark Weaver is a graduate of The Pennsylvania State University with degrees in both Art Education and Sculpture. Originally a Central Pennsylvania native, they now live outside of Baltimore as a full time artist and ceramic studio instructor. Although Mark frequently makes three-dimensional artwork, they love working with any and every medium they can get their hands on (from clay, to paint, to digital media).
