Overview

Having spent some 20 of his 33 years as a member of the Queensland Police Service, serving in predominantly country towns, the Author, his wife, and their two children had the pleasing opportunity to function as community members in remote areas and to experience the birth and vocalisation of their stories and yarns as can only be presented by an authentic Aussie Bushman.

This book is an expose of many of these characters with their stories and yarns.

In what could be described as a bonus. These pages also provide valuable insight into the unique calls for service by country police, most often without backup, or the luxury of professional support groups enjoyed by police serving in larger, better equipped suburban and city areas.

About the Author

Although he was born in the country (Nanango Queensland) Max Lewis was raised from childhood in the City of Brisbane.  Leaving school at the tender age of 14 years, Max struggled in several jobs due to his immaturity until reaching the age of around 20 when he finally could hold down a job.  In 1966 he joined the Queensland Police Service.  Serving some 33 years he rose to the rank of Inspector but chose to serve in predominately country police stations where he and his wife and family also participated in the day-to-day functioning of whatever country town they found themselves. Although Max grew up in the city he shows in his book how, through community participation, the enjoyment of hearing bush yarns and stories, and the interaction with truly country people can convert a 'city boy' into  'A Country Cop' at heart.

Table of Contents

  • A collection of stories and yarns from remote country areas as well as a parade of those characters living them. This non-fiction work comes from the life experience of the author who spent many years with his wife and family serving in remote and country police stations, becoming intimately involved in the highs and lows of country life and community interaction. An excellent indication of the many and varied 'extra - ordinary' calls for service and jobs attended to by our police in areas where a community has to 'make do' where outside assistance is next to non existent.
