About the Author

Barbara M. Lord was born in Boston, Massachusetts. She received her BA from Ohio Wesleyan University with a major in English. She was also a departmental assistant. She started her writing career at TIME/LIFE as a staffer on the publishing side.
Prior to that she spent several years in administrative social work as a Program Director for the YWCA, a USO executive director, an Assistant Director for the American Heart Association, Director for the Retired Senior Volunteer Program, and Director for the Association for Retarded Citizens (ARC). She volunteered as a Big Sister in the Big Brother/Big Sister program and was also a volunteer ski instructor for underprivileged children.
While on leave from LIFE, Barbara worked as a Wyoming hunting camp cook one fall. She had fallen in love with the backcountry and would gladly have traded her job at LIFE for a cabin in the wilderness. Perhaps the most important lessons learned were not to tie the pack mule’s lead rope to your own saddle horn lest you end up in the drink and also not to ride between a mother moose and her calf!
Barbara and her family enjoy their life in Texas where she lives with her husband, two cats, one German Shepherd, and a retired AQHA show horse. Her children live nearby and all gather for family dinners. Her family has always been there to support her writing, and Barbara has always tried to inspire her children to stretch their minds and to reach for the stars. The family home schooled for several years. She would say to her children “If you reach for the stars and happen to land on the moon, what a wonderful adventure that would be!” Even now she inspires her granddaughter to use her imagination and to find a way to put her dreams on paper.
BURY THY BROTHER is Barbara’s first novel, although she has had other pieces published. The next book (AN ANGEL’S QUEST) is nearly finished and can be pre-ordered now. The author dedicated many years to extensive research in order to get both the genealogy and the history of the Civil War correct. The cover picture on the historical novel is her cousin Addison H. Grant who served with the 7th Maine, and whose ghost often visited Barbara begging her to clear his name of the false charge of cowardice. The war tore the family to pieces.
