Overview

Douglas' strongest full-length effort, Burnin', was released at the height of the disco craze in 1978. Coincidentally, of all her works, the selection here is the most obviously influenced by the genre in its arrangements. The strongest moments are the two opening cuts, also released as singles: "Fell in Love for the First Time Today," an easygoing, melodic foot-stomper, and the title track, a steady, funky swayer that showcases a bolder shade of Douglas's voice. These two cuts are the perfect match of artist, material, and production and surpass in merit many of the artist's prior single releases. Also notable is the breezy, midtempo "So You Win Again" and the groovy "Let You Come Into My Life." An essential for any Douglas fan. ~ Justin M. Kantor
