Overview

The next novel featuring Lieutenant Eve Dallas from #1 New York Times bestselling author J.D. Robb!

Sometimes "brotherhood" is just another word for conspiracy...

Dennis Mira just had two unpleasant surprises. First he learned that his cousin Edward was secretly meeting with a real estate agent about their late grandfather's magnificent West Village brownstone, despite the promise they both made to keep it in the family. Then, when he went to the house to confront Edward about it, he got a blunt object to the back of the head.

Luckily Dennis is married to Charlotte Mira, the NYPSD's top profiler and a good friend of Lieutenant Eve Dallas. When the two arrive on the scene, he explains that the last thing he saw was Edward in a chair, bruised and bloody. When he came to, his cousin was gone. With the mess cleaned up and the security disks removed, there's nothing left behind but a few traces for forensics to analyze.

As a former lawyer, judge, and senator, Edward Mira mingled with the elite and crossed paths with criminals, making enemies on a regular basis. Like so many politicians, he also made some very close friends behind closed-and locked-doors. But a badge and a billionaire husband can get you into places others can't go, and Eve intends to shine some light on the dirty deals and dark motives behind the disappearance of a powerful man, the family discord over a multimillion-dollar piece of real estate...and a new case that no one saw coming.

Publishers Weekly

Bestseller Robb's subpar 42nd novel set in a near-future New York (after 2015's Devoted in Death) finds Eve's friend Dennis Mira, husband of her psychiatrist colleague, Charlotte Mira, requesting her help after his cousin, former U.S. senator Edward Mira, goes missing, presumably kidnapped. It doesn't take long for Edward's corpse to show up or for another similarly tortured and abused victim to be discovered. Edward was a serial adulterer, and as Eve tracks down his paramours, she discovers disturbing connections. Links between Edward and the second victim also appear, and Eve, assisted as always by her lover, Roarke, and supporting staff, engages in a race to identify the killers and protect other likely victims. The crimes are ugly and the victims more so, and Eve has to fight through her own brutal past in this less than sparking entry in Robb's popular series. Agent: Amy Berkower, Writers House. (Feb.)

In this latest starring Lt. Eve Dallas, Dennis Mira is about to chastise his cousin, judge/senator Edward Mira, for selling their grandfather's West Village brownstone when Edward appears, battered and bloodied, then promptly vanishes.

JUNE 2016 - AudioFile

In this installment in the In Death series, Lt. Eve Dallas, of the New York City Police, is faced with solving a crime that starts close to home, with the assault of her close friend, Dennis Mira. Susan Ericksen continues her narration of this series as only she can, with a deep no-nonsense voice for Eve and a quieter Irish-accented voice for Rourke, Eve’s husband. The mystery is full of twists and turns as Eve and her team track down the brotherhood and find the truth behind the murders. Ericksen’s reading keeps up with the action and emotion as she uses changes in pitch and tone to match the mood. This audiobook can be listened to as a stand-alone title or as part of the series.
