Krzysztof Poluchowiczis the in-house designer for the Brooklyn-based book publisher powerHouse Books. He has designed many best-selling titles as well as more than 400 posters for literary events at The POWERHOUSE Arena in Brooklyn. Kris has recently produced a project called "StationEntrance" that documents and illustrates New York's subway entrances. Originally from Poland, Kris now makes his home in Brooklyn, NY. Poluchowicz, an in-house designer for this Brooklyn-based publisher, offers a hybrid alphabet book and guide to this New York City borough, showcasing its history, culture, and attractions. Photographs, lists, drawings, sidebars, and captions create a scrapbook-style format, while interactive components invite readers to take part. A tongue-in-cheek tone runs throughout: in “H is for hipster,” readers can “pull together a hipster outfit” by adding patterns to sun hats, skirts, boots, and jeans; on the G spread, Poluchowicz notes that the Gowanus Canal is “famous for being highly polluted (not to mention stinky).” The Coney Island Cyclone, water towers, and yarmulkes (“New York City has the largest Jewish population in the world outside Israel”) also get their due in a loving homage to and light overview of the wildly diverse borough.
