Overview

How would you do if you left home as a child? This classic tale of the four orphaned children (Henry, Jessie, Violet, and Benny) who hit the road to fend for themselves when their father died provides a fascinating answer. The four children demonstrate both ingenuity and independence as they find shelter, food, and money to sustain themselves (and their new dog!). Determined to stay together and avoid being sent to their unkind grandfather, they show intelligence and kindness in their journey. This children's novel was ranked among the all-time "Top 100 Chapter Books" by the School Library Journal in 2012.
