Book of Bad Bargains
Jazz, you clever girl, you had me at hadrosaur's tooth. Book of Bad Bargains is an absolute delight to read and likely one of the most creative I've come across in several months.
The science fiction aspects are well-integrated and child friendly. They are consistently simple to read and easy to absorb. As a 'girl dad,' I was particularly happy to see that the wheeling, dealing little firecracker of a science prodigy is female. Overall, this is a tightly written and exceptionally well-crafted story. Very highly recommended. -- 5 Star Review by Asher Syed for Readers' Favorite
Story Monsters' 2023 Purple Dragonfly Book Awards – 2nd Place Audio Book, Honorable Mention in Early Reader, Picture Book 6 & Older, and New Author categories.
In book two of the series, Book of Bad Bargains, Jazz tries to convince her older brother to trade his beloved blue marble with increasingly peculiar bargains. Readers - quite possibly even adult readers are introduced to a curious range of trinkets. Deceptively down-to-earth drawings have Easter eggs including maps in Klingon and a key from a DeLorean.
Spattered with irreverence and touched with ingenuity, this illustrated series featuring Jazz and her older brother has the feel of an instant classic. Gratefully, Laura Teste, in her author-illustrator debut, has included tongue-in-cheek nods to the lucky adults in the room. For the inquisitive-can't-sit-still children, her series is sure to capture their attention and whet their appetite for more.
