Blue Grits
This is an original screenplay by a veteran screen writer. Think "In the Heat of the Night - with a grittier edge!"
Preacher Davis is a New York homicide detective with a recurring nightmare. He’s in an alley, cradling the body of a ten year old boy. A hole where the kid’s chest used to be. Head lolling in the slack embrace of death. Preacher agonized, trying to push the blood back into the wound, desperately willing the boy back to life.
Some things you just can’t fix.
So Davis walks away from his job as a homicide detective and returns home to Jackson, Mississippi. In the bible-belt city of his youth, among family and friends, he searches for a new lease on life.
But peace of mind is fleeting – once a cop, the underbelly of a city has a way of finding you.
A designer drug called Pony is sweeping Jackson on the backs of the Pony Express, a network of bicycle-riding street urchins. Coerced to make deliveries and collections, they are protecting shadowy figures in positions of power. In a city where drug money can open any door, including the church, murder soon follows.
Some things you can’t leave behind.
When death strikes his family and threatens a brave woman trying to reclaim local kids from the crime wave, Preacher is forced to confront his own demons. With a pair of terrified orphans and a local cop with a flair for violence as partners, Preacher once again takes it to the streets.
Some things you just have to fix.
