Overview

Bloom & Fury commands your attention.

In her second collection of poetry, Diya Kole walks readers through a reflective and intimate journey of self-love, womanhood, growth, and black joy while navigating different forms of oppression. Bloom & Fury features a collection of raw, honest conversations exploring the emotional and psychological darkness of today—state-sanctioned violence, rape culture, colorism, and misogynoir—all while uplifting the heroine voices of black women. This collection illustrates black life and art, relationships with ourselves and others, accountability, and seeing the truth. These heartfelt poems explore trauma past and present, cultural and personal, through themes of water, flowers, and fire.

her heart was a story
of a sea in the desert
depths waved and beckoned
waters of sweet promise and tenderness
rising and falling with grace

About the Author

Diya Kole is a writer, poet, designer, and digital creator. Born and raised in Los Angeles, Diya began writing poetry and short stories at seven years old. She began college at 16 years old and went on to win a national poetry contest, having her poetry published in a book for the very first time. She received her BA Magna cum laude in Psychology from South University. Diya continued her creative writing journey through her poetry blog, “Yahdiyah Akilah,” and published her first book, Pieces of Me. When not writing, Diya enjoys exploring the world with her partner, Bright, as they read, dance, and drink too much coffee. An admitted creative addict, she feeds her addiction to art by creating something each day like an idea, painting, song, design, and other forms of expression.
