Overview

After striking something in the road with his truck, a man follows a trail of red drops through the forest to a mysterious settlement. Will he be able to save the young woman held prisoner by a primitive band of creatures with large feet? The answer lies at the end of the "Bloodpath"! Humanity and a furtive community of Bigfoot have co-existed for many generations, relatively ignorant of each other, until a man hits something with his Pickup on a lonely road at night. Stepping out to investigate, Boyd is knocked unconscious and dumped in the woods, where he discovers a hidden settlement and a young Native-American woman being held captive by elusive beasts. A short adventure tale from the author of AN ILL WIND BLOWS; DANCE OF THE CHUPACABRAS; ODDS AND ENDS: A DARK COLLECTION. "Bloodpath" is also available in THE MACABRE MIND OF LORI R. LOPEZ.

About the Author

The Woods have long been a favorite tiptoeing ground and place of refuge for Lori R. Lopez. She thrives on the presence of trees and the placid beauty of Nature. And yet, in her writing as well as reality, the author is well aware that the most peaceful settings might transform into scenes of abject terror. Daily this potential plot twist reverberates in her life while imagination morphs the mundane into the eerie and unsettling. Louder than the ringing of two ears can come the tinglers of spine-crawling anticipation as she awaits the next chapter, the subsequent turn of each figurative page leading down a path to trouble, woes, and dark dilemmas. Yet through it all she manages to maintain a cheerful disposition of semi-optimism, always hoping that the Moon will come up tomorrow and the bats will sing like a choir of banshees. Whatever creatures may populate the corners of her vivid thoughts, Lori just hopes she will be able to capture them with lines and letters. Otherwise, they will escape and wreak havoc beneath her bed or inside her closet. They will stir in her cellar, bump in her attic, knock on her door. And then, then she will be forced to move! She doesn’t like to move. It’s a lot of work, and she has so much to pack. Years and years of baggage. All of the Knickknack Paddywackle Hifalutin-Tootin’ Brittle-Peanutty Class-A Curios that tend to accumulate when you aren’t looking. And even when you are! They add up and pile up until you can’t take a step without running into them. Until you have to do a little Spring Cleaning in September and debunk the clunk; plunk the hunk; junk the trunk so to speak. Clear space for more stuff and stuffing-such to roll in like the Tide. Of course, strolling in the forest is not for everyone. Some do Meditation and Yoga to locate their inner tranquility. Lori does Tree Yoga, which usually amounts to standing as straight and tall and stiff as you can for as long as you can. Most of the time she is very busy sitting at her desk and cannot find a single second for doing Tree Poses. The rest of the time she is thinking about sitting at her desk (a lifestyle that can give your joints a few cricks, your belfry crickets). Or dreaming of nondairy Ice-Cream Sandwiches with Dill Pickles and Purple Tea, her favorite meal. Lori feasts on this three times a day, except Tuesday when she has Finger Sandwiches thrice or twice — substituting French Fries for Fingers — and wrinkle-free Cabbage Raisin Smoothies.
