Blood in the Canyon
A vampire attempting to live among the residents of a dying town in the Wild West. A beautiful woman forced into prostitution after the horrible death of her husband. And an Indian bent on revenge against the monster that killed his village. What happens when the three of them finally come face-to-face with one another?
Canyon was just starting to deal when he heard Earl raise his voice to Molly. He froze in mid-deal, absolutely rigid as he strained to hear their conversation. The cowboys at the table stared wide-eyed at Canyon – it was as if he had been instantly paralyzed. Horace, on the other hand, leaned back in his seat and waited.
Everyone in the saloon heard the smack of the Earl's hand against Molly's cheek. But only the three men at the poker table saw Canyon disappear. One minute he was there, and the next he was gone – just like a magic trick. The deck of cards was sitting on the table, but the man who had been dealing them a second ago was nowhere in sight.
Canyon hated moving so fast among the humans, but he was enraged at the thought of Molly getting hurt. When he reached the scene of the confrontation, he saw Molly sitting on the floor. She looked shaken, and he could see – hell, he could smell – the blood in her cheek forming a bruise. He slowed down to normal speed and stepped in front of the tall cowboy.
"Where the hell did you come from?" Earl snarled. "Don't matter anyway – just mind your own business and get out of my way. I ain't done with her yet."
