Overview

Carve out time, uninterrupted, you are reading content that is meant to feel like you are in the author's stream of consciousness.

As the biological mother of one, Gabrielle went from a relatively simple family of two to an intricate, blended family of six and is newly navigating what it means to step into the roles of wife and mother while constantly evolving as a woman. Although she cannot imagine her life any other way, there are often more questions than answers around what blending a family truly demands. The multitude of factors that incessantly affect how life unfolds for the very real individuals living in this truth serve as constant reminders that interactions with your family, particularly with your kids, have generational implications...

Meant to read like a therapy session, it takes time before the author becomes comfortable enough with herself – and the reader – to reveal a level of transparency that feels truly exposed, but keep reading.

As you delve deeper, literary boundaries are tested and you may even be confronted by some of your own truths. What are the familial proximities, relational dynamics, and innermost vulnerabilities that have shaped the blend that has become you?

About the Author

Black woman. Mother. Wife. Commissioner. Intellect. Coach. Confidant. Daughter. Friend. Creative. One of one.

Gabrielle obtained her Bachelor of Arts (Communications) in 2009. Life has taken her down many paths, but becoming an author has been one of the most surprising and unexpectedly rewarding. In 2012, one her college professors, Dr. Abdul Karim Bangura, informed her that an abstract she created for his Political Behavior class (2009) had been chosen as a model abstract for the 2012 National Conference on Undergraduate Research (NCUR). The feature title, 'Poverty in America: A Triangulative Treatise of A Numbers Game,' was her first published content. Born and raised in the suburbs of New Jersey, close friends would describe her as introverted, but ambitious; curious, but decisive; and an enigmatic spirit on an endless quest for self-improvement. However, of all the words one would use to describe Gabrielle, unpredictable could be the most consistent. That being said, tremendous irony still lies in the decision to yet again share some of her most intimate thoughts with complete strangers. Gabrielle’s intent in sharing her story is not to tell people how to live their lives, but rather to inspire – in the words of Marcus Lemonis, “Get comfortable being your true self; (even) at the risk of being criticized.”

Oh, and she is a Howard University alumna. Go Bison.
