About the Author

Michael Green is a New York American writer and producer. Green has written for TV and several feature film screenplays, including Logan, Alien: Covenant, Blade Runner 2049 and Murder on the Orient Express, all in 2017. Logan, co-written with James Mangold and Scott Frank, was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay. He is also the co-author of several graphic novels including Batman: Lovers and Madmen, Super-Man/Batman and Supergirl with Mike Johnson.
Mike Johnson is a prolific comic book writer with credits writing Titans, Superman, Batman, Star Trek: Nero and Star Trek: The Official Motion Picture. He is the ongoing writer of the IDW Star Trek series, and comic book tie-ins to Fringe and Transformers.

Andres Guinaldo is a versatile Spainish penciller, artist, cover and backup artist. He has over 185 credits to his name and has worked for Marvel and DC comics including Green Lantern, Justice League, Suicide Squad, Captain America and The Incredible Hulk.

This slick prequel comic to the 1982 film introduces Detective “Ash” Ashina, one of the first Blade Runners. Hired by mogul Alexander Selwyn to hunt down his missing wife and daughter, Ash is drawn into a mystery involving rogue android Replicants, medical experimentation, and the always-sinister Tyrell Corporation. The high-tech noir style, filled with carefully rendered cityscapes and machinery, fits the material like a glove; the Blade Runner universe has always looked like something out of a Heavy Metal comic, after all. Though the plot is new, the overall aesthetic will be familiar to anyone who’s seen the original film or Blade Runner 2049. The L.A. of the future is still dark and rain-spattered, Ash visits many of the iconic film locations, and the characters speak the expected hardboiled patois. The script even manages to work in a Replicant delivering a poetic monologue about memory à la Rutger Hauer’s “tears in the rain.” At the same time, the graphic novel introduces new cyberpunk concepts and expands the vision of a retro-futuristic urban society where the line between human and machine is rapidly blurring. If this spin-off sometimes hews too closely to the mood of the films to feel totally original, at least it’s a well-made tribute. (Nov.)

When corporate titan Alexander Selwyn's wife, Isobel, vanishes along with their four-year-old daughter, Cleo, he asks Los Angeles Detective Ash Ashina to track them down. Ashina undertakes the task with all the ruthless detachment expected of a classic noir protagonist, and soon discovers that Isobel—revealed to be a Replicant created to take the place of Selwyn's wife following her death—has come under the protection of an underground network dedicated to helping renegade Replicants escape capture and execution at the hands of the authorities. No problem—Detective Ashina excels at hunting and killing Replicants. Meanwhile, Isobel and Cleo travel through the L.A. underworld and across the border into Mexico in search of an island sanctuary inhabited by runaway Replicants.
