Overview

Part 3 of 6 about Black Bear Hunting. Most of this book is about black bear hunting with hounds, but part of the chapter about the advantages of trail cameras also applies to hunting over bait. All aspects of dogging bears are covered, including training bear dogs, and there's a chapter about a pioneer houndman, Dee DeMoss, who probably killed more bruins ahead of dogs than any other person when he worked for timber companies in Washington.

About the Author

The author has been photographing, studying and hunting black bears at all times of the year for 50 years. There are many myths about black bears and bear hunting and he has been doing his best to lay most of them to rest by presenting as many facts as possible about these animals and how they are hunted. This book, which is the fourth one he's written about black bear hunting, represents one of his efforts to do that. His biggest black bear is the second highest scoring for North America in muzzleloading records. He's taken at least five others that qualify for muzzleloading records, including two from Michigan. Three of the black bears he has bagged have qualified for entry in Boone and Crockett Records and he has four taken with bow and arrow in Pope and Young Records.
