Overview

My debut book, Bittersweet, is a collection of poetry and prose that I have written over the years. This book talks about love as deep as the ocean, grief darker than darkness itself and growth as beautiful as a garden that never stops growing. Love, grief and growth are aspects of our lives that make life very bittersweet; but I believe that it is this bittersweetness that makes life a worthwhile journey. If you love literature, delving deep within words and reading books that make you ponder - this book is for you. It is said that books are a person's best friend. Well, there are a lot of emotions resting in these pages; and if that is the kind of friend you look for in a book, then I believe this book is definitely for you.

About the Author

Hi there! My name is Kinza, but I also have another name: Amal. You can choose to identify me with whichever name you prefer. I use the pen name "excerptsofherstory." You must be wondering, why does she have two names?! Well, that is a story for another day. :) I am a 24-year-old Canadian-Pakistani Muslim female who has been writing since a very young age and has used writing as a way of creative expression. I love to express my passion for helping others and advocating for mental health through creative writing such as poetry and prose. I also love penning down the general human experience on paper — the experiences that we are too afraid to speak about, I try to be courageous and pen them down creatively and poetically. I truly believe that writing Improves cognitive function. Learning new words, working out meters, and finding new ways to articulate our thoughts and feelings (communication) are all good for the brain. I believe that writing also helps heal emotional pain. Grief is one of the most painful emotions we experience and it’s also the source of some of the world’s most inspirational poetry. I believe it leads us to greater self-awareness and provides a gift of inspiration and education to others. One thing we know — we are not alone! Universal questions, fears, and emotions are called ‘universal’ because everyone, no matter what country or culture they’re raised in, experiences them. Once we’ve done the work of exploring and finding our own answers, we can help others by sharing them - and this is my passion and goal. Other than writing, I have a passion for all things psychology and medicine, research, humanitarian/non-profit/charity work, travelling, and learning new skills. Currently, I am trying to learn Arabic Calligraphy!
