Overview

Inspirational Readers Choice winner Cathy Marie Hake has written dozens of compelling novels, including Letter Perfect. Although Laney's been sweet on Galen for a while, he's always considered her his best friend's tag-along sister. But when Galen finally sees Laney as the wife of his dreams, a vile lie shatters his hopes and a leveled shotgun repays his kindness-on the very day he plans to pop the question. ". the right mix . to keep readers on the edge of their seats ."-Library Journal

...I found Bittersweet a worthy and pleasant book, filled with believable, likeable and interesting characters. I particularly enjoyed the descriptions of the everyday life on the farm and in the little town. I would recommend this book to any female who loves a story with lots of morals and practically no violence.

Cathy Marie Hake has done it again! I found myself unable to lay this book down from the very first chapter to the very last page. I sincerely hope she continues to write many more enchanting novels like Bittersweet. If anyone loves Historical inspirational fiction, this is an awesome book for them. If you enjoy a good love story, this is the one. Sometimes we all have to wait upon the Lord and He gives us what we want, but it's on His timeline not our own.

Ms. Cathy Marie Hake has a true gift for story-telling and this book is exceptional. The characters are truly phenomenal; they are so believable, it is as if the reader is looking at a picture! I literally had a hard time putting this novel down. It is a sweet story of Christian involvement and love toward others when, truly, it would have been much easier to react in hurt and anger. There are quite a few characters that are truly loveable; they are strong, dynamic people presented in such a way that I felt as if I know them all and love most of them!

I highly recommend this marvelously sweet story of love which becomes Bittersweet!

Hake was written a moving love story. Love has its ups and downs in any relationship and in any century. A worthwhile read for fans of Hake and historical fiction.

OCT/NOV 08 - AudioFile

What begins as a simple and sweet love story of the 1860s soon plunges into a poignant tale of self-sacrifice and forgiveness. Narrator Stina Nielsen develops each character's personality through the richness of her voice and an accurate interpretation of moods and events. Laney McCain and Galen O'Sullivan are in love, but their life plans are devastated when Galen’s kindness to squatters on his land is repaid with trouble. Can they trust God with something that apparently destroys all their dreams? Hake knows how to weave an enduring story with engaging characters. Nielsen takes it to another level with her energetic narration. A terrific listen! N.L. © AudioFile 2008, Portland, Maine
