BiodentineT: Properties and Clinical Applications
This book is a comprehensive guide to BiodentineTM, an innovative biocompatible and bioactive material based on pure tricalcium silicate that can permanently replace dentin and can also serve as a temporary enamel substitute. Although BiodentineTM has been widely used across the world for the past decade, this is the first book to be devoted to its properties, interactions with the soft and hard tissues, and its multiple clinical applications. The coverage encompasses applications in primary and permanent teeth, in specialties as diverse as restorative dentistry, endodontics, paediatric dentistry, dental traumatology, and prosthetic dentistry. BiodentineTM application both in vital pulp therapy and endodontic procedures is illustrated and clinical step by step prools are provided. The book provides a detailed update on BiodentineTM use to preserve the pulp vitality in direct/indirect pulp capping, pulpotomy and irreversible pulpitis treatment. It also details BiodentineTM use for non-vital teeth treatment in indications such as root/furcation perforation repair, apexification as well as in regenerative endodontic procedures.

BiodentineTM: Properties and Clinical Applications will be a rich source of guidance and information for all dentists as well as dental students and academics.

About the Author

Imad ABOUT is Head of the Research Laboratory and of Basic Sciences at the Faculty of Dentistry, Aix-Marseille University, France. Professor About gained his PhD in biochemistry from Aix-Marseille University in 1992 and subsequently joined the university as an assistant professor, later becoming Professor of Oral Biology in 2002. He was president of the Pulp Biology and Regeneration Group of the International Association of Dental Research and is currently President of the Continental European Division. He is Associate Editor of Clinical Oral Investigations and was guest editor of a special issue published in Stem Cells International in 2017 and a special issue of Journal of Endodontics published in 2020. Professor About’s research group is involved in investigating the role of progenitor and non-progenitor cells in dentin-pulp regeneration, and the effects of biomaterials on these events.

He was the winner of the European Society of Endodontology annual research grant in 2012 and received the “Distinguished Scientist Award 2018” from the Pulp Biology and Regeneration Group. Professor About is actively involved in developing dental materials and is one of the leading academics involved in Biodentine development. He is also a well-recognized expert in pulp stem cells and tissue regeneration. He has published more than 220 peer-reviewed papers, abstracts, and book chapters and is a renowned speaker who has frequently been invited to major international conferences.
