Overview

BILLY BUDD tells the story of a young boy impressed into service with the Royal Navy in 1797. Billy Budd is well-liked by the crew, but aroused the inexplicable hatred of the master-at-arms, who accuses Budd of mutiny. Hauled before the captain on unfounded charges, Budd's efforts to defend himself soon land him before a court-martial.

BILLY BUDD is the final novel by Herman Melville, author of MOBY DICK. It was found unfinished among his papers after his death, and first published in 1924.
