This potboiler from the prolific Coulter combines a brisk mystery with a spicy romance between a late-blooming beauty and a tough ex-cop. (Jan.)

Who is trying to kill Lindsay, a model with a past? It could be her unloving father, hateful half-sister, the brother-in-law who once raped her, or her weirdo former professor. It probably isn't Taylor, the former cop who finally unlocks her passions and marries her. The solution of this mystery is one reason to keep listening to this overlong and overwritten novel. Deborah Hazlett's decent reading is another. Her voice is clear and, while she doesn't totally become each character, she leaves you in no doubt of each one’s personality and motivations. Lindsay and Taylor's thoughts, fears, and erotic yearnings come at you ad nauseam, but that isn't the audio's fault. This capably presented story might actually be improved by abridgment.
