Overview

Of course Betty Bunny didn't do it - the Tooth Fairy did! Or, at least that's who the irrepressible preschooler uses as her scapegoat as she tries to wriggle her way out of trouble. As usual, her loving family rallies to help Betty figure out why "crying wolf" can be just as much trouble for her as actually lying in this third title in the popular series, once again delivered with verve and charm by Katherine Kellgren.

Editorial Reviews

School Library Journal - Audio

03/01/2015
PreS-Gr 1—Betty Bunny develops a lying problem. First she lies about a broken lamp and then changes her story as she thinks it will benefit her. Betty's siblings and mom jump in to help Betty see the importance of telling the truth. This is a family affair, and everyone gets involved, with each character's unique personality popping out. Betty does learn her lesson but with a twist that will leave readers cheering. Narrator Katherine Kellgren does a nice job capturing Betty's emotions and the sometimes chaotic feel of family life. Her pacing allows listeners time to enjoy the accompanying illustrations without feeling rushed. Readers can choose to follow along with or without page turns signals; the recording uses the sound of a page turning, which is less intrusive than the loud beep found with some read-along titles. VERDICT This latest Betty Bunny title is a winner for young listeners.—Deanna Romriell, Salt Lake City Public Library, UT

JANUARY 2015 - AudioFile

Narrator Katherine Kellgren sounds like a stern British nanny—when she tells you to turn the page, you listen! But her tone transforms when she portrays a cast of characters that includes the impetuous Betty Bunny, along with Betty’s knowing older siblings, who offer Betty advice, and her sometimes vexed parents, who instruct Betty on the nuances of truth telling. Lying, Betty learns, is “worst of all” because it undermines credibility. However, her dad explains, hurting people’s feelings with the truth also should be avoided. This little story offers young listeners lots to think about AND listen to. Sound effects, including breaking glass and the wail of a siren, will entertain children as they sort out the nature of truth and consequences along with mischievous Betty Bunny.
