About the Author

Robert G. Richardson is an attorney in Alexandria, Va. He previously served as staff and senior staff attorney with the Securities Investor Protection Corporation (SIPC) in Washington, D.C., from 1974-77, was an associate and partner with Hutcheson & Grundy LLP, a law firm in Houston, from 1977-98 and opened the firm’s Dallas office in 1985, and was a partner with Jackson Walker LLP in Dallas from 1998-2011. Mr. Richardson has practiced commercial bankruptcy law for almost 40 years, including litigation and corporate reorganization, and has special expertise in liquidations of financial institutions. While an attorney with SIPC, he supervised the liquidations of stock brokerage firms in New York, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Georgia, Montana and Utah, and while he was a private attorney, he served as trustee and legal counsel to trustees for numerous cases filed under the Securities Investor Protection Act of 1970. He also has extensive experience in representing U.S. governmental agencies that insure customers’ accounts with savings and loan associations (FSLIC) and banks (FDIC), having successfully litigated a number of lawsuits recovering millions of dollars of judgments, and has represented bankruptcy trustees in fraud and Ponzi scheme cases. Mr. Richardson is licensed to practice before the Supreme Court of Texas, the U.S. Supreme Court and the Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia, and is admitted to U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit, as well as the U.S. District Courts for the Northern, Southern, Eastern and Western Districts of Texas. He is a member of the State Bar of Texas, the U.S. Supreme Court, ABI and the John Ford Inn of Court, and he has served as the president of the Houston Chapter of the Federal Bar Association and on the National Council of the FBA. In 2010, he was named a “Top Lawyer in Dallas” by Lexis/Nexis. Mr. Richardson attended the U.S. Military Academy at West Point from 1965-67, received his B.A. with honors in mathematics from the University of Texas in 1969, and received his J.D. from the University of Texas School of Law in 1972.
