About the Author

Larry Monroe is the Chicago White Sox vice president of free agent and Major League scouting, a position he has held since October 1994. Prior to assuming his present position, He served as the White Sox’s vice president of scouting and minor league operations from 1990 to 1994. A former right-handed pitcher for the Chicago White Sox, Monroe has 27 years of experience with the White Sox organization as a player, scout, minor league instructor, and coach. He served as both a special assistant to the general manager and major league scout before taking over vice president duties. A graduate of Forest View High School in Arlington Heights, Illinois, Monroe received all-conference baseball honors three times and all-area baseball honors twice. He was the White Sox number one selection in the June 1974 free agent draft and made his Major League debut with the White Sox on August 23, 1976, in Detroit, where he pitched two scoreless, hitless innings. Monroe is married to Jaine and has three children: Taylor, Allison, and Grant, and two stepchildren: Alexandra and Rachael.
