Benjamin Franklin (1915)
MORE than two hundred years ago there was born in Boston a baby who was destined to become the foremost man of his time. He became famous not only as a statesman but as a scientist as well, for that baby was our own Benjamin Franklin. He was born on Sunday, January 17, 1706, and was baptized in the famous old church — the Old South Church — just across the street from his birthplace. He was carried there by his father through deep snow, and was named Benjamin after his father's brother, who was then living in England. Later the brother came to this country and became the favorite uncle of his little namesake.
