Beginning Public Speaking: Workbook and Study Guide
This book originated in the 1990s as an 8 1/2" x 11" workbook assembled using a typewriter, photocopies, and a comb binding machine for the students in my undergraduate "Beginning Public Address" class. Over the years, I received feedback from prior students who held onto this text and reported it as a "go-to" manual whenever their employment or organization required them to provide a presentation. As a result, it has been reassembled in its entirety, but in a smaller convenient size Study/Preparation Guide for Public Speaking.
My goal in creating the original workbook was because classroom texts, too often, were wordy using too many pages for expressing simple concepts. Not much time was left in class for teacher/student interactions except when critiquing their speeches. The workbook intended to reverse this process by presenting the principles of public speaking in a compressed and written form. Therefore, documentation is provided both in the context of the individual page and in the brief bibliography at the end of the booklet.
