About the Author

Jessica Gunderson grew up in the small town of Washburn, North Dakota. She has a bachelor’s degree from the University of North Dakota and an MFA in Creative Writing from Minnesota State University, Mankato. She has written more than one hundred books for young readers. Her book President Lincoln’s Killer and the America He Left Behind won a 2018 Eureka! Nonfiction Children’s Book Silver Award. She currently lives in Madison, Wisconsin.

Thais Damião is a Brazilian illustrator and graphic designer. She studied graphic design at Centro Universitário Belas Artes de São Paulo, followed by an MA at Academy of Art University, where she specialized in visual development, in the beautiful city of San Francisco, California. Born and raised in a small city in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, she spent her childhood playing with her brother and cousins and also drawing all the time. Enchanted by children since she was a child, her illustrations are all dedicated to them.
