About the Author

Lucane LaFortune, M.Ed., is a Haitian-American intersectional womanist, educator, and Body Justice advocate dedicated to championing the rights and dignity of marginalized communities. She is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Education with a focus on the intersection of fatphobia and the educational experiences of Black girls in the United States. Her work sheds light on the deep-rooted societal pressures that affect body image and access to equitable education for girls of color.

Residing in Baltimore, Maryland, with her family, Lucane is a passionate advocate for systemic change, particularly in the areas of racial justice, housing inequality, and gender-based violence. Her activism is deeply informed by her lived experience as a survivor of trauma, anti-fat bias, and anti-Blackness, driving her commitment to creating inclusive spaces and policies. In her free time, Lucane enjoys exploring the world of podcasts, playing chess, and engaging in conversations that challenge the status quo.
