Overview

More than any other food borne illness, salmonella is responsible for killing the most United States citizens each year.

According the United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), 1.2 million cases of salmonella are reported every year. Of the 1.2 million, roughly 20,000 of these cases required hospitalization and there are an estimated 400 deaths a year caused by bacteria.

Of the estimated 1.2 million people infected and become sick from one form or another of salmonella, Well over 100,000 of those cases are directly associated with eggs. But as the numbers show, there are other ways to become ill with the silent killer.

Salmonella is also one of the top two most common intestinal infections here in the United States. With more that 8,000 cases reported, there are estimated tens of thousands cases that go unreported or misdiagnosed.
