About the Author

Ed Lowe grew up in Aurora, Illinois and moved to nearby Chicago as an adult. He earned a doctorate from Trinity in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He and his wife worked in urban neighborhoods for many years. In his work in the city he trained hundreds of workers story-telling techniques and how to use a sketch board. A lover of animals, he began writing and circulating stories, lessons, and graphic illustrations about their unique and special attributes, and used them to communicate moral principles. The first Kumquat Kingdom story was drawn in 1999 on a 4-foot by 12-foot sketch board using black light. Within two years dozens of short stories and lessons were written and widely distributed to children until 2012. The stories have now been expanded to novellas and crafted for young adult readers. Ed looks after animals and photographs wildlife, all of which fuel inspiration for his stories and books.
