Stories of a typical Bavarian childhood in Munich right after World War II: Our poor boy Hansi doesn't get normal shorts, but a traditional "Lederhosen", which moreover is bought at the fair's Cheap-Jack kiosk. Because of post-war shortages, our hero is rarely well-fed, and life for the most part is based on basic elements of survival. And yet, he and his best friends still find the time to be naughty. Without much money for any form of leisure, Hansi and his friends learn to enjoy exploring bombed building and abandoned houses, sneaking into the pool without paying, secretly sipping the beer's top off, and dreaming of adventures as cowboys or careers as professional soccer players. In his book, Olaf Maly shares amusing real-life stories from the old Munich that bring back memories of a time when there was always a walk on the wild side for a generation who had seen the world literally fall to pieces around them and yet feared nothing—except their moms or some young Fräuleins!

About the Author

I was born and grew up in Munich, where I studied and became a mechanical engineer. Due to the sun and less complicated way of life, I decided to move to the Floridan Gulf Coast many years ago, where I decided to devote myself entirely to writing. I wanted to create entertaining stories that transport readers to another world and allow them to relax and forget their everyday life. My books are all set in Munich or its surrounding area, where my mind always seems to be pulled back to. When I'm not writing, I love to read new authors, go to the theatre, or travel around the world to places that I deem interesting or that can deliver new experiences.
