Description: This review of neuroscience comes at an opportune time. There have been significant developments in neuroscience over the past 20 years. The understanding of concepts of molecular biology and internal organization of cells and genes helped in deciphering codes previously unknown. The interaction between different growth factors and the genome is a well-established concept and the majority of discussions in neuroscience currently deal with mechanisms of controlling cell behavior. Moreover, the decoding of the cell cycle is of ultimate importance for the development of new drugs for cancer management.
Purpose: The objective of this book is to be a review of neuroscience for standardized tests and for the resident's daily life.
Audience: The target reader is the medical or graduate student who wants to quickly review the major concepts in neuroscience.
Features: Ten authors contribute 13 chapters in this book. Throughout the book, illustrations help one figure out the underlying context and to review the main topics. The book is developed progressively to show different facets of neuroscience, including development of the nervous system, mechanisms of intracellular signal transduction, and details of the biochemistry and function of the nervous system.
