Overview

Barracuda are a potentially dangerous foe of both divers and anglers. It is important for persons who might come in contact with them, to understand their past actions, as recorded in news accounts. I have utilized newspapers and books from the twentieth century, and the 21st, to write details of their interaction with humans. On many occasions they are more to be feared than sharks. The reason is that barracuda seldom shy away from flashing light, whether it turns out to be a lure or a swimmer's arms or legs. Sharks tend to shy away from attacking humans unless they are very hungry. Also, barracuda are faster swimmers than sharks over short distances. I hope that Barracuda Miscellany will serve as an educational tool for sportsmen as well as persons who eat fish in their diet.
