Overview

This is the first chapter of a book that I have been writing about a sailor who has a liberty call in Barcelona, Spain, over the Christmas/New Year's holiday 1992/1993. In this chapter I am attempting to convey what it feels like to spend the first day in port after being out to sea for a period. Additionally, I try to convey some of the atmosphere of actually being out to sea.

I am a 45 year old Navy veteran who is also a graduate of Michigan State University (BA, English, 1996) and Indiana University School of Law (JD, 1999). I have a wonderful wife and two great children. There are days, though, that I wish that I was still a sailor.
