About the Author

Glenn Rolfe is an author/singer/songwriter from the haunted woods of New England. He has studied Creative Writing at Southern New Hampshire University, and continues his education in the world of horror by devouring the novels of Stephen King, Ronald Malfi, Jack Ketchum, and many others. He and his wife, Meghan, have three children, Ruby, Ramona, and Axl. He is grateful to be loved despite his weirdness.

He is a Splatterpunk Award nominee and the author of Until Summer Comes Around, The Window, Becoming, Blood and Rain, The Haunted Halls, Chasing Ghosts, Abram's Bridge, Things We Fear, Boom Town, and the collections, Slush. and Land of Bones.

Suppressed memories, a rampaging serial killer, a Native American curse, and a malignant spirit realm are just a few of the plot points jammed into this overstuffed supernatural horror novel from Rolfe (Blood and Rain). As a young boy in Spears Corner, Maine, John Colby witnessed the abduction of a friend who was later found murdered. Years later, John, who has no memory of the incident, has nightmares that transport him to Graveyard Land, a weird realm where he mingles with ghostly denizens who treat him as one of their own. Graveyard Land proves the nexus between a historical curse placed on Spears Corner by the Passamaquoddy tribe, who were displaced by the town’s founding fathers, and the contemporary murder spree of Llewellyn Caswell, a John Wayne Gacy–type serial killer, but Rolfe has to torque his plot through a slew of underdeveloped incidents to connect these dots. Rolfe’s fans will want to check this out, but others can safely skip it. (Aug.)

John Colby is a man literally haunted by the ghosts of his past. The cursed town of Spears Corner itself provides the makings of an evil foe that John must face in order to come to grips with his decisions as a youth and his mistakes as a man. Fallible and relatable, John must overcome his fear as he faces off against an evil force far worse than he could ever imagine. An excellently assembled cast of characters rounds out this well-told horror story. Rolfe's homage to early Stephen King is a thrill to read, with references to the horror legend peppering the novel. While there is not much gore, there are references to horrible depravity "off screen" that will make even long-time horror readers squirm. The incredible cover art also adds to the book and fits well with the novel's themes. VERDICT This creepy-crawly feast for the senses is a must for any fans of King and would be a particularly great read-alike suggestion for IT, Insomnia, or Dreamcatcher.—Jeremiah Paddock, St. Petersburg Lib., FL
