Description: This book offers descriptions and diagrams of the anatomy of the breast and axilla. Surgical techniques for management of both malignant and benign breast disease, with an emphasis on a good cosmetic result, are reviewed through descriptions and diagrams.
Purpose: The management of diseases of the breast is a rapidly changing field. This book is designed to assist surgeons and surgically experienced gynecologists in the management of breast disease. The authors bring diverse expertise from the United States, Germany, and Italy.
Audience: According to the author, this book is designed for surgeons and surgically experienced gynecologists. As this book covers breast anatomy and descriptions of surgical procedures, it is also useful for surgery residents who are interested in breast surgery. The section on plastic and reconstructive breast surgery is also useful for the practicing and resident surgeon.
Features: The book begins with a section covering the anatomy of the breast. This is followed by descriptions and diagrams of breast surgery techniques. An informative section covers unique incision usage, with the goal of having an optimal cosmetic result. However, it lacks some descriptions and diagrams of intermediate steps which may be useful to surgeons in training. The section on plastic and reconstructive surgery updates the general surgeon on the current options available for breast reconstruction. Practicing plastic surgeons may also find this section useful.
Assessment: Overall, this book provides a descriptive and illustrated view of management of malignant and benign diseases of the breast. This will be useful to practicing surgeons as well as surgery residents.
