ABOUT THE BOOK AND AUTHOR

At Fault was written by Kate Chopin (1850-1904) and is her first novel. It was first published in 1890.

Set in the late 19th century in Louisiana and St. Louis, Missouri, the novel is about Thérèse Lafirme, a young widow left alone to run her plantation in Louisiana. She falls in love with David Hosmer, a divorced businessman, but is unable to accept his marriage proposal. She seeks to reconcile her own needs with those of the people for whom she was responsible.

Kate Chopin was an American author who wrote short stories and two novels set in Louisiana, USA. The two novels are At Fault (1890) and The Awakening (1899). The two short story collections are Bayou Folk (1894) and A Night in Acadie (1897). Kate Chopin is a frequently read and recognized writer of Louisana Creole heritage. She was considered by some to be a leading author of her time. Some scholars believe that she was a forerunner of American 20th century feminist authors.
