About the Author

Alex Dimitrov and Dorothea Lasky are the duo behind the beloved Twitter account @poetastrologers, better known as the Astro Poets. Dimitrov is the author of three poetry collections, and his work has been published in The New Yorker, The Paris Review, and The New York Times. Lasky is the author of six books of poetry and prose. Her work has been published in The New Yorker and The Paris Review, and she is an Associate Professor of Poetry at the Columbia University's School of the Arts.

Lasky (Milk) and Dimitrov (Begging for It), both published poets, jointly run a Twitter account with 500,000 followers that serves as a guide to the zodiac and forms the basis of this whimsical yet astute volume. In many ways they present a traditional handbook of astrology, giving a basic overview of astrological signs and the ways they manifest in human behavior. But the authors add their uniquely modern flair with plenty of references to contemporary celebrities, erogenous zones for each sign, original poetry written for each sign (such as Cancer: “Everyone thinks that nothing means anything. But you don’t. You loved once. Another world. You made a scene about love”), discussions of love and attraction between signs, and clever fictional scripts of text message conversations between those of different signs. The brevity of the introduction outlining the theory behind astrology will likely fail to convince any readers not already committed to the zodiac, but Lasky and Dimitrov are witty and divulge plenty about their own lives, which will entertain readers of all backgrounds. Readers wishing to learn more about their type will be charmed by this splendid handbook. (Oct.)
